asleep at last

We were thinking of calling her "Newfie." She knows no commands...she doesn't know what "no" means...she has no clue we are calling her...lord, for all the crap this little one has been through, and there is much more to her story, she is a sweet tempered thing(except with other dogs) and I have high hopes that she is going to blossom with all the attention that was previously lacking in her life...I need to go collapse now. G'nite.

if i may make a suggestion, some newfie's dispise being called that (i could care less, i yam what i yam!)some people consider it derogitory. "newf" on the other hand hasn't got anyone in trouble, that i know of.
another suggestion, there is a famous newfoundland dog that was lost off the point of cape spear. this dog became so famous that there is a beer named after it and a picture of the dog on the label. the dog's name was india. good dog, good name, good beer.
other newfoundlandish things:
bakeapple (which are similar to the colour of her ears)
killick (a homemade wooden anchor)
marm (means to travel from place to place while heading home)
just thought i would share some of her homelands colourful language with you. there is a shot of shea heights in my flickr account if you want to see where she probably came from, a lovely little community, it makes me sad that she couldn't find peace on my island, i'm happy she has found it with you on yours.

She will blossom and thrive with her new Mom, I know it. I wonder who was more tired last night, you, or her.

blossum?

nah, too cheesy.

I know you'll give her lots of love and patience and firmness.

do they know how old she is? She really is cute and pretty!

She's 4 years or maybe 5... I think Blossum might remind me too much of that show in the 90's...80's? 90's...not that I watched it but, geez, she was EVERYWHERE

Ya know, just a typical American...I had NO clue that Newfie could be a bad thing...it sounds so cute!!!
and cheerful... no Newfie then... I hear that Doter means an old seal...I like the word and she sounds like a big, old seal when she is baying!

Beautiful little girl!!
So many people have suggested great names, but I was wondering how you liked the name "Hope"?

She looks like a saffy to me.

Hope is good! Hope or Faith. Maybe even Trust.

Just realized that she weighs less than our Pug!

How about Deeohgee? Get it? Say it out loud. My neighbors dog was named that.

Your dog weighs less than my 16 1/2 pound cat that I just put on a diet.

She's finally home and Casper would love to share stories with her! They've been around the block and back, haven't they? I like the name Patience (actually one of the girls' Cabbage Patch Kids names when they were young), but it certainly applies to your little one...and it paid off! Welcome to the west coast, sweet thing!

Cara, she totally perked her tattered ears at the word Killick...maybe it IS a dialect thing...
Blossum, Hope and Patience were in the running, along with Fance(newfoundland english for a female dog) and Pearl...oh, and Annie...and Sara....and so many more... each had it's perks and it's drawbacks. How do people name their kids...I just don't get it...
