the demise

We, as a neighbourhood, do not know what this building holds next in store for us. It has been "bought" though the same landlord holds the title...as is his way of cheating people legally, stealing back the building(s) when the new owner fails to make payment. It is still a mess, and may continue to be one. It is supposedly to be made into a duplex...which requires rezoning...which takes time(months to a year)...which has no guarantees of even being approved. The siding is peeling, there seems to be mold growing on the outside so who knows what the inside looks like....it could sit like this for the next year...... but the Hooker/Dealer Umbrella, otherwise known as the awning came down this afternoon. Tomorrow morning I won't draw back the curtains and see "SPANGLISH" across the street. I can't tell you how good that feels. Like that b$%#h is really gone, gone, gone. The sun shone brighter. Can you see the sunbeams in the corner of the photo there? And the sound of the chop saw cutting up the frame of the Hooker/Dealer Umbrella, er, the awning, was music, I tell you, music. I almost crossed the street to ask if I could cut it up with that saw. I want to go kick it while it's down. You know, if that building was not there, I would actually have a view of Mount Benson. I wish the fire department had let it burn down....there's snow on Benson right now. It sure would be pretty.
Still, all in all, it feels real good right about now. I didn't realize how much I really hated looking at that sign on that awning every day. Kiss off, Spanglish.

Yay!!! I'm so happy for you not to have that sign mocking you anymore. But...same deal as the problem house on our street. Slum lord holding title, reclaims, etc... Well let's hope for the best, eh?

How has the street been this last week? Is the quiestness wearing off? I expected alot more license and pictures on the Dear John blog, but not seeing so many was hoping things have improved.

Have a great weekend!

I wonder if it is the same slumlord, Olly?
It has been quiet...hooker wise. The dealers aren't around "too much" during the day, but come out at night around 11 or so. becuase we still have a crackhouse(or three) around here..but this past Wednesday was "Welfare Wednesday" and lots of folks have rooms at hotels. This weekend should be quiet.

Bu bye Spanglish!

Good for you, Dilling! Every little bit brings you closer to the neighborhood you have been working so hard for. Who knows? Maybe the building will be the next to come down.

Someone should turn it into an artist's studio. In dreamworld?

This feels like a good step.

Real real gone. Gone gone gone.

glad the 'awning' has been taken down, just wish for you that the building was taken down too.
Wow who would not love the view of Mount Benson

No, Saroya doesn't own the one on our street. Wouldn't it be nice if he really sold the Spanglish property and the church (he owns that, right) and the new owners leveled it? Although a developer would slap up a condo project....

I love Heidi's idea of an artist studio!

Great!!!!! Maybe an anonymous call to the fire department telling them where they can find the perfect building for training firefighters? Sounds like the neighborhood is shaping up!
